Outreach with Local School Districts
Our relationship with local school districts is very important to our success. All school nurses we know regularly express concern about the oral health of students in their school buildings. Since the inception of CSC, we have worked with school nurses in nearly every district in our six-county area to provide school screening events, averaging over 10,000 students served each year.
At a school screening, one of our licensed staff, either a RDH or DDS, provides a very brief oral exam with encouragement for at-home care and regular dental appointments at a clinic. Also included in the screening is an application of fluoride varnish, which is proven to help prevent dental decay, as well as a take-home oral hygiene bag containing toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and oral care information.
CSC partners with area schools to assist in a wide variety of back-to-school events, usually in August. We provide information about our clinics to thousands of families each year who are looking for resources for their children, including access to a dental clinic for children covered only by Missouri Medicaid.
We work to establish regular connections with school nursing staff in every school district in our six-county area, letting them know that we are a resource for regular dental clinic care for their students covered only by Missouri Medicaid.
